The Ceiba (Ceiba pentandra) is considerate a symbol of life, greatness and union. The Mayas had the tradition of celebrating their rites under its foliage, considering it a holy tree because it represented the communication between heaven and the underworld. Due to its greatness and beauty, many Latin American cultures respect it, admire it and preserve it. If you look at the bark you will notice the spines that it has for protection on its first thirty years of life.
